Trims and Mechanical

Toyota has kept the Crown lineup simple with just three grades: XLE, Limited, and Platinum. The first two get the hybrid powertrain, which consists of a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine and two electric motors, which collaborate for 236 total horsepower. It works with a six-speed automatic transmission to achieve an EPA-estimated 42 miles per gallon in city driving and 41 mpg on the highway. The Platinum has the gasoline-only powerplant, a 340 hp turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder that’s paired with a continuously variable transmission (CVT). This higher-output combo returns fuel economy of 29 mpg city and 32 mpg highway.

XLE

The XLE has the efficient hybrid powertrain, along with LED exterior lighting, Smart Key (keyless entry), push-button start, dual-zone automatic climate control, an overhead console with lights, seats upholstered in a blend of fabric and SofTex simulated leather, heated front seats that are power-adjustable eight ways and have whiplash-mitigation technology, a 12.3-inch driver information display, power-adjustable/power-folding heated side mirrors, and 19-inch alloy wheels. The Crown XLE’s 12.3-inch multimedia system manages wireless smartphone integration (Android Auto and Apple CarPlay), Bluetooth, SiriusXM satellite radio, and a sound system with six speakers. Also standard are wireless device charging, an ample number of USB ports, and access to a Wi-Fi hotspot and Toyota connected services (including cloud-based navigation, remote diagnostics, and emergency calling).

Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 sets up the XLE with adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert, lane departure alert with steering assist, and lane tracing assist. Proactive driving assist, which provides braking help in certain situations, such as cornering, is included as well, along with automatic high beams, road sign assist, safe exit assist, and a rear-seat reminder.

Limited

The Limited gets upgraded proximity keyless entry, quad-LED headlights, a heated leather-wrapped steering wheel, rain-sensing windshield wipers, and the aforementioned fixed-panel panoramic glass roof. This trim’s leather-upholstered seats are heated and ventilated in the front row and heated in the back row. Front and rear parking assist with automatic braking join the safety suite. The infotainment system is bolstered with a JBL sound system with 11 speakers.

Platinum

The powerful Platinum has the gasoline-only powerplant, a 340 hp turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder that partners with a CVT. It also has paddle shifters for more engaging driving, plus an adaptive variable suspension, and 21-inch alloy wheels. A surround-view monitor comes standard, as does a JBL sound system with 11 speakers.
