Trims and Powertrains

A simple lineup of two trims, the SE and XSE, forms the RAV4 Prime’s 2024 lineup. Their power source is a combined effort from a 2.5-liter four-cylinder gas engine paired with electric motors, creating 302 horsepower and 165 pounds-feet of torque. Drivers have an array of operation modes to choose from to suit the moment’s conditions: Normal, HV, EV, Auto EV/HV, Trail, and Charge. A continuously variable transmission (CVT) and all-wheel drive are standard on both trims. With that capability and up to 8.2 inches of ground clearance, the RAV4 Prime isn’t just made for the highway. It can explore some off-asphalt territory or pull a small trailer, with a maximum tow rating of up to 2,500 pounds.

When it’s running on battery power alone, the RAV4 Prime supplies an EPA-estimated 42-mile electric-only range. Overall, it returns an EPA-estimated 94 MPGe, or 40 mpg in the city and 36 mpg on the highway.

Standard Features

The SE shows off a red-accented interior with heated fabric-clad seats, an 8-way power-adjustable driver’s seat with lumbar support, dual-zone automatic climate control with rear vents, a 7-inch digital information center, Smart Key with push-button start, two 12V power outlets (front instrument panel and cargo area), five USB ports (three front, two rear), a leather-trimmed steering wheel and shift knob, a 60/40 split reclining fold-flat rear seat with center armrest and cup holders, and a cargo-area tonneau cover. This base trim’s exterior features include low-profile black roof rails, a height-adjustable power liftgate, a dual chrome-tipped exhaust, heated power outside mirrors with blind-spot warning and turn indicators, and 18-inch black 5-spoke machined sport-alloy wheels. Toyota has added the optional Weather & Moonroof Package this model year for buyers who want a heated steering wheel, heated rear outboard seats, rain-sensing windshield wipers, and a power tilt/slid moonroof.

The XSE’s upgrades consist of SofTex-trimmed seats, a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, wireless smartphone charging, blue ambient interior lighting, an auto-dimming rearview mirror with a HomeLink universal transceiver, a power tilt/slide moonroof with one-touch open/close, red-painted shock absorbers, vertical LED accent lights, black power-folding heated outside mirrors with blind-spot warning and turn indicators, and 19-inch black 5-spoke machined sport-alloy wheels. Rear outboard heated seating is optional, and it’s also eligible for a version of the Weather Package containing a heated steering wheel and rain-sensing windshield wipers. The Premium Package will add a 10-inch color head-up display, a 6.6 kW onboard charger, heated and ventilated front seats, a panoramic glass roof with power tilt/slide, a power-adjustable passenger seat, a digital rearview mirror with a HomeLink universal transceiver, a 120V power outlet in the cargo area, a foot-activated power liftgate, and additional safety features (detailed below).

Advanced Driver Aids

Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+ is the standard suite of driver-assist technologies found on both RAV4 Prime trims. Its contents are forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, lane departure alert, steering assist, automatic high-beam headlights, a rearview monitor, lane trace assist, traffic sign recognition, adaptive cruise control, rear cross-traffic alert, and a blind-spot monitor. The available Premium Package for the XSE will add front and rear parking assist with automatic braking and a surround-view monitor.

Infotainment and Connectivity

The SE gets an 8-inch touchscreen multimedia system, while the XSE moves up to a 10.5-inch touchscreen. Both trims have wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, SiriusXM satellite radio, Bluetooth connectivity for hands-free phone calls and audio streaming, and access to various connected services with free trial subscriptions. The SE has a basic a six-speaker sound system, but the XSE spoils its occupants with a premium 11-speaker JBL sound system with an amplifier and subwoofer.
