A History of Excellence

The Balise legacy began in 1919 when Paul E. Balise, a farm boy from Hatfield, Massachusetts, began fixing farm equipment and automobiles in his backyard garage. He opened Hatfield Garage and eventually became an associate Chevrolet dealer. In 1929, Paul moved to Chicopee Falls, Massachusetts, where he opened a Chevrolet dealership and used car outlet. By the early 1930s, he relocated to the South End of Springfield and later to East Columbus Avenue. In 1958, Paul’s son James E. Balise (Jim) became President and led the company to success, opening one of the first Honda dealerships in North America in 1971. Over the years, the Balise family grew, with Jim’s son, James E. Balise, Jr. (Jeb), taking over as President in 1986. Today, Balise Toyota is a proud part of one of the largest family-owned dealership groups in New England, with over 1,000 associates and a legacy of excellence.
