Trims and Powertrains

The three Corolla Hatchback trims – SE, Nightshade, and XSE – have a powertrain made up of a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine (169 horsepower) and a continuously variable transmission (CVT). The drive can be customized via a mode selector with settings for Eco, Normal, and Sport. This front-wheel-drive compact hatchback returns commendable fuel economy, with the SE and Nightshade achieving an EPA-estimated 32 mpg in the city and 41 mpg on the highway. The XSE returns slightly less with a rating of 30 city/38 highway.

Standard Features

The SE has remote keyless entry, push-button start fabric sport seats with manual adjustability, a 4.2-inch multi-information display, , a leather-trimmed tilt/telescopic steering wheel, automatic climate control, a 12 V power outlet, two USB ports, 60/40 split fold-down rear seats with a center armrest and cup holders, LED headlights and taillights, heated power outside mirrors with integrated turn indicators, and 16-inch alloy wheels.

The Nightshade’s unique styling features blacked-out badging, a black front lower grille surround, a black rear spoiler, a black roof-mounted shark-fin antenna, a Midnight Black Metallic roof, and 18-inch bronze-finished alloy wheels. The optional SE Premium Package (SE and Nightshade) will add upgraded safety features (listed below) and wireless device charging.

The XSE is upgraded with standard wireless device charging, SofTex upholstery, heated front seats, an 8-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, a 7-inch digital gauge display, dual-zone automatic climate control, LED fog lights, dual chrome-colored rear diffuser accents on the single exhaust, blind spot indicators on the side mirrors, and 18-inch graphite alloy wheels.

Advanced Driver Aids

All Corolla Hatchbacks have the Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 (TSS 3.0) driver-assist technology suite installed. This standard package consists of lane departure alert, steering assist, pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, lane tracing assist, road sign assist, a rearview camera, forward collision warning, automated emergency braking, and automatic high-beams. When the SE and Nightshade have the SE Premium Package elected, they’ll also get blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert; those features come standard on the XSE.

Infotainment and Connectivity

The SE and Nightshade have the base multimedia system, with an 8-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, SiriusXM satellite radio, and six speakers. The XSE is treated to a premium JBL audio system with eight speakers and an amplifier. All trims are set up for subscription access (with free trial period) for Drive Connect, featuring Cloud Navigation, Destination Assist, Google Points of Interest, and voice recognition capability. Remote Connect, Safety Connect, and Service Connect are also provided with free trials.
