Trims and Powertrain

There are three trims in the Corolla Cross Hybrid lineup: S, SE, and XSE. Their gas-electric powertrain makes 196 horsepower, and a continuously variable transmission (CVT) manages the standard all-wheel drive. The EPA has estimated the vehicle’s fuel economy at 45 mpg around town and 38 mpg on the open road. The Corolla Cross Hybrid offers 21.5 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats and can tow up to 1,500 pounds when it’s properly equipped.

Standard Features and Optional Packages

The Corolla Cross Hybrid in the S trim is nicely equipped with single-zone automatic climate control with rear vents, proximity keyless entry, push-button start, LED headlights (with an auto-off feature), heated power side mirrors, manually controlled front seats, a tilt/telescopic steering column, intermittent windshield wipers, sport-themed exterior treatments, a 4.2-inch driver information display, and 17-inch alloy wheels.

The SE’s enhancements include rear privacy glass, black roof rails, steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters, variable intermittent windshield wipers, an intermittent rear window wiper, heated power side mirrors with integrated turn-signal indicators, and a leather-trimmed steering wheel. The optional SE Moonroof Package will add the namesake moonroof and a cargo-area cover.

As the highest-priced Corolla Cross Hybrid, the XSE gets heated front seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, a ten-way power driver's seat, SofTex upholstery, full LED exterior lighting with fog lights, a 7-inch digital gauge cluster, a cargo-area cover, a rear folding armrest, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a leather-wrapped shift knob, and 18-inch alloy wheels. The optional XSE Convenience Package furnishes a power moonroof and a power liftgate.

Advanced Driver Aids and Safety Technology

All Corolla Cross Hybrids come with Toyota Safety Sense 3.0, adding forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane departure alert with steering assist, lane-tracing assist, adaptive cruise control, automatic high beams, and road sign assist. The SE and XSE get blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and safe exit assist. The XSE alone gets front and rear parking sensors with automatic braking.

The additional safety features found on all trims include nine airbags, anti-lock brakes, vehicle stability control, traction control, hill start assist, Smart Stop Technology (to prevent unintended acceleration), and a rearview camera (which includes dynamic guidelines for the XSE).

Infotainment and Connectivity

All trims get an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen enhanced with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a six-speaker audio system, SiriusXM satellite radio, Bluetooth, and multiple USB ports. Wireless device charging is standard on the SE and XSE, which can also be upgraded with a nine-speaker JBL sound system. A Wi-Fi hotspot is standard as well, along with access to Toyota connected services for emergency help, remote vehicle access, and vehicle monitoring. Cloud-based navigation is optional.
