Trim Levels and Powertrain

With a choice of six trims—LE, XLE, XLE Premium, SE, XSE, and Limited—there’s a RAV4 Hybrid for every buyer’s preferences and budget. The eco-friendly powerplant is the same throughout the lineup, with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine pairing with a hybrid-electric system to make 219 horsepower. All-wheel drive is standard, as is a continuously variable transmission. Toyota includes a drive mode selector with settings for Normal, Eco, and Sport, and the EV mode lets the RAV4 Hybrid operate strictly on battery power at low speeds for short distances (for example, in a parking garage). The EPA has officially estimated that the RAV4 Hybrid will return 41 mpg in the city and 38 mpg on the highway. It can tow as much as 1,750 pounds.

Standard Features and Options/Packages

The base LE packs in the quality amenities, with dual-zone automatic climate control with rear-seat vents, LED exterior lighting, power side mirrors, remote keyless entry, a 60/40-split folding rear seat, a tilt-and-telescopic steering column, active grille shutters (for improved fuel economy), rear privacy glass, and 17-inch alloy wheels. A 4.2-inch digital display keeps the driver informed about the vehicle’s operation status, including the hybrid system’s performance. The XLE provides a bit more, getting enhanced LED exterior lighting, proximity keyless entry, push-button start, and a cargo-area cover. The optional XLE Convenience Package will add a power liftgate and power moonroof. Those features come standard on the XLE Premium, which also gets SofTex upholstery, an eight-way power driver’s seat, integrated LED fog lights, 18-inch alloy wheels, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. The Advanced Technology Package is available for those who want front and rear parking assist with automatic braking, a digital display review mirror, and wireless device charging.

The new-for-2022 SE trim starts with the same standard equipment as the XLE and adds a sport-tuned suspension, unique exterior treatments, a power moonroof, fabric upholstery with blue accents, and 18-inch wheels with a black finish. The XSE receives enhanced exterior lighting, a dual-tone exterior with a Midnight Black Metallic roof, SofTex upholstery with fabric insert panels, heated front seats, and a 7-inch driver information display. Its options include a panoramic glass roof with a power moonroof and the Advanced Technology Package (a driver’s seat memory system, front and rear parking assist with automatic braking, upgraded proximity keyless entry, a surround-view monitor, a digital display rearview mirror, and wireless smartphone charging).

The Limited is the top-tier RAV4 Hybrid. It’s equipped similarly to the XLE Premium but with upgraded Bi-LED headlights, trim-specific exterior and interior accents, a 7-inch driver information display, and a digital rearview mirror. The optional Limited Advanced Technology Package will furnish an expanded proximity keyless entry system, a panoramic glass roof with a power moonroof, a surround-view monitor, and wireless charging.

All RAV4 Hybrid trims (except for the LE) are available with the Weather Package, which comes with varying equipment based on the version. Heated front seats, a heated leather-wrapped steering wheel, and rain-sensing windshield wipers are the overlapping features for most trims. Adding this package to the XLE Premium includes driver’s seat memory, while the Limited gets perforated front seats that are both heated and ventilated, and heated rear outboard seats with perforated SofTex inserts.

Active Safety and Technology

Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is a standard feature for every 2022 RAV4 Hybrid. It bundles a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, lane departure alert with steering assist, lane tracing assist, adaptive cruise control, road sign assist, and automatic high beams. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is also included on the XLE and higher trims (it’s optional on the LE). Other standard features related to safety are the assembly of eight airbags, vehicle stability and traction controls, anti-lock brakes, and Smart Stop Technology (to reduce unintended acceleration).

The 2022 RAV4 Hybrid’s base infotainment system has a 7-inch touchscreen, an audio system with six speakers, smartphone integration (Apple CarPlay and Android Auto), Amazon Alexa, Bluetooth, SiriusXM satellite radio, access to Toyota Connected Services, and an onboard Wi-Fi hotspot. A 9-inch touchscreen is available on the XLE, XLE Premium, and SE and is included with the XSE and Limited. An 11-speaker JBL sound system is standard on the Limited and optional for the XLE Premium and XSE. Navigation is an available upgrade for the XSE and Limited.
