2021 Toyota Venza
Overview
The first run of the Toyota Venza ended in 2015, but it’s returning for the 2021 model year – or at least its nameplate is. While the original Venza was built on the Camry platform and looked like a meld between a station wagon and a minivan, the new incarnation is a two-row hybrid-electric crossover utility vehicle. It’s based on a Toyota model called the Harrier that’s not sold in the United States.
Let’s be honest: there are so many crossovers out these days that it’s gotten difficult to distinguish one from the next. That’s not the case with the 2021 Venza, which reflects the Harrier’s sleekness and stands out from the crowd. It of course also offers all of the signature qualities of a Toyota: great build quality, a long list of standard and available features, standout fuel economy, and a complete suite of active safety technologies. Let’s run through what we know about this highly anticipated and exciting vehicle.

Trims and Powertrain
Toyota has planned three trim levels (or grades, to use the automaker’s preferred term) for the all-wheel-drive 2021 Toyota Venza: LE, XLE, and Limited. The hybrid powertrain, which puts out 219 total system horsepower, consists of a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine and three electric motors and is expected to return a combined city/highway 39 mpg. The technology in the all-new Venza will include a Predictive Efficient Drive (PED) system that analyzes the driver’s on-road habits and records road and traffic data to optimize battery charging.
Comfort and Convenience
The 2021 Venza will have an available electrochromic roof, a technology that’s been around for decades but is being offered for the first time in a Toyota. The Star Gaze roof’s panoramic fixed-glass panels can be quickly switched between transparency and opaqueness to let in or keep out the rays as the occupants prefer. Power-adjustable front seats will be standard, with the driver’s seat getting the bonus of auto slide-away for easier entry and exit. Heated front seats will be offered, and buyers of the Limited trim will enjoy standard ventilated front seats.
Driver-Assist Features
As mentioned above, Toyota Safety Sense 2.0, a full package of driver-assist features, will be included on all three 2021 Venza trims. Some of the notable technologies in this excellent bundle include a pre-collision system with daytime/low-light vehicle and pedestrian detection, daytime bicycle detection, adaptive radar cruise control, and road sign assist. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert also comes on all trims, and the two higher trims receive front and rear park assist with auto emergency braking.
Infotainment and Connectivity
The 2021 Venza’s standard information/entertainment setup has an 8-inch touchscreen and includes both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus Amazon Alexa, six speakers, Bluetooth functions, and SiriusXM satellite radio. The Limited trim receives the upgraded version with a 12.3-inch touchscreen and a nine-speaker JBL audio system, plus navigation. Those premium features are offered as options on the XLE.
