2024 Toyota Tundra

24 tundra

Overview

If you’re in the market for a new truck, it would be hard to argue with a maximum payload of 1,940 pounds, a towing capacity of 12,000 pounds, an aluminum-reinforced composite bed, a fully boxed high-strength steel ladder frame with hydraulic cab mounts, and ultra-high-strength steel cabin construction. Those are the attributes you’ll get with the 2024 Toyota Tundra.

Toyota’s full-sized pickup looks to continue its success with some updates for this season, including an available TRD 3-inch suspension lift kit, a TRD Off-Road Package now available on the Platinum 4x4, and a TRD Performance Package coming in spring 2024. The Nightshade package, featuring dark design elements both inside and out, is exclusively available on the Limited. And speaking of exclusivity, Toyota is introducing an all-new Tundra 1794 Limited Edition, with only 1,500 units made.

Powertrains and Performance

Eight trim levels make up the 2024 Tundra lineup: SR, SR5, Limited, Platinum, 1794 Edition, 1794 Limited Edition, TRD Pro, and Capstone. The standard powertrain is a 3.4-liter i-FORCE V6 mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission. This combination is capable of generating up to 389 horsepower, 348 lb.-ft. of torque, and has a max towing capacity of up to 12,000 pounds. Rear-wheel drive (4x2) is the standard with this base powertrain, although four-wheel drive (4x4) is available across all trim levels. The EPA has estimated that this version of the Tundra achieves 20 mpg around town and 24 mpg on the highway.

The second powertrain choice is an i-FORCE MAX V6 Hybrid paired with the same 10-speed automatic transmission; it’s standard in the 1794 Limited Edition, TRD Pro, and Capstone and optional for the Platinum. In this case, Toyota has added the electric motor to boost power rather than fuel efficiency. Four-wheel drive comes standard with this robust gas-electric powertrain, which produces 437 horsepower and 583 lb.-ft. of torque and allows for towing up to 11,450 pounds. According to the EPA’s official estimations, this robust version of the Tundra returns 19 mpg city/22 mpg highway.

SR and SR5

The SR comes as a double cab with a 6.5-foot bed, a double cab with an 8.1-foot bed, or a CrewMax with 5.5-foot bed, and all Tundra beds are aluminum-reinforced composite to reduce wear and tear. Notable features on the entry-level SR include LED headlights and daytime running lights, a smart key system, a rear under-seat storage compartment with removable and adjustable partitions, 18-inch styled steel wheels, and remote keyless entry with lock/unlock, illumination, panic, and tailgate release functions.

For connectivity and entertainment, the SR gets an 8-inch touchscreen multimedia setup with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and SiriusXM; three USB ports are also provided. It also gets the base version of Toyota Safety Sense 2.5, which contains automatic high beams, lane tracing assist, lane departure alert with steering assist, full-speed range dynamic radar cruise control, pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, and road sign assist.

The SR5 can be configured the same ways as the SR, as well as in CrewMax form with a 6.5-foot bed, along with single-zone automatic climate control, LED fog lights, a deck-rail header and side rails with adjustable tie-down cleats and fixed tie-down points, TOW/HAUL selectable driving modes, a towing hitch receiver and wiring harness with a 4-pin/7-pin connector, and an integrated trailer brake control (ITBC) system.

Limited and Platinum

The Limited has three available body styles: a double cab with a 6.5-foot bed, CrewMax with a 5.5-foot bed, or CrewMax with a 6.5-foot bed. Its exterior upgrades include heated outside mirrors, 20-inch alloy wheels, and a tailgate-release bump switch built into the driver's-side taillight (it automatically lowers the tailgate with the touch of a button). The cabin has heated and ventilated front seats (8-way power adjustable), SofTex upholstery, a leather-wrapped shift knob, dual-zone automatic climate control, an auto-dimming rearview mirror with HomeLink, and a 12.3-inch digital meter. As far as technology features, the Limited gains a 14-inch Toyota audio multimedia touchscreen and a blind spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert and trailer merge warning.

The Platinum is only made as a CrewMax with either a 5.5-foot or 6.5-foot bed, and it rides on 20-inch dark-gray-painted alloy wheels. Its other distinguishing features include a heated steering wheel, 10-way power-adjustable front seats, leather-trimmed seating surfaces, a panoramic roof with power sunshade, a trim-exclusive grille with dark chrome-finished accents, a 12-speaker JBL premium audio system, wireless smartphone charging, five USB ports (three front; two rear), ambient cabin lighting, and premium LED headlights with LED daytime running lights, sequential turn signals, auto on/off feature, and automatic leveling. This trim’s towing situation is also enhanced by a panoramic view monitor and trailer backup guide with straight path assist.

1794 Edition and 1794 Limited Edition

Toyota describes the limited-run 1794 Edition as a modern Western design. Its CrewMax body style (5.5-foot or 6.5-foot bed) is distinguished by elements such as a chrome-accented mesh grille with chrome surround, 20-inch machined-finish alloy wheels, a color-keyed tailgate spoiler, gray-painted overfenders, and chrome accents spanning the 1794 EDITION door badge and garnish, door handles, mirror caps, and window molding. Inside, it gets 1794 Edition all-weather floor mats, American walnut trim, and a special etched badge in the instrument panel.

Although the 1794 Limited Edition retains much of the 1794 Edition’s design, it gets some significant additional equipment plus aesthetic changes inside and out. As mentioned, only 1,500 of the 1794 Limited Edition will be produced, with the production number of each laser-etched into the badge on the instrument panel. Mechanically, this grade trades the standard V6 for the 437-horsepower i-FORCE MAX V6 Hybrid powertrain with four-wheel drive and adds 2.5-inch Fox internal bypass shocks with piggyback reservoirs and a 1.1-inch lift. It also adds power running boards, a head-up display, mudguards (front and rear), an electronically locking fuel door, and a multi-terrain monitor. The only available body style is the CrewMax with a 5.5-foot bed.

As far as styling changes, it gets the same American walnut trim as the regular 1794 Edition, but the leather upholstery is unique. Toyota partnered with the Saddleback Leather Company to develop this premium leather interior in a way that brings the contemporary Western look to life for this very special Tundra. One noteworthy detail is that the seatbacks have functional flaps and buckles to make them appear like actual saddle bags. On the exterior, the 1794 Limited Edition gets dark chrome finish for the grille and body side moldings, blacked-out exterior accents, unique badging, and special stamping on the tailgate.

TRD Pro

The TRD Pro is a crew cab with a 5.5-foot bed and it comes loaded with performance equipment like an electronically controlled locking rear differential, multi-terrain select (MTS), Crawl Control (CRAWL), downhill assist control, an off-road suspension with a 1.1-inch front lift and 2.5-inch FOX 14 internal bypass shocks, an aluminum front skid plate with red-painted front coil springs and stabilizer bar, and Xply Armor high-strength undercovers for the engine, fuel tank, and transfer case. Its exterior highlights are 18-inch forged-aluminum BBS wheels with Falken Wildpeak all-terrain tires, LED marker lights, a Heritage-inspired TOYOTA grille with an LED light bar, dual black exhaust tips, and a TRD PRO stamped tailgate with an easy lower and lift feature and smart-switch release.

The interior is every bit as stylish with a red-striped leather-wrapped shift knob, SofTex-trimmed seats with contrast stitching and technical camo pattern inserts, a red TRD ignition button, aluminum sport pedals, TRD Pro all-weather floor mats, and a multi-terrain monitor that utilizes front, rear, and side camera angles to help better-navigate uncertain road surfaces.

Capstone

Similar to the TRD Pro, the Capstone is only available as a crew cab with a 5.5-foot bed and comes outfitted with trim-exclusive designs and equipment. The exterior gets 22-inch chrome- and machined-finish alloy wheels, a dark chrome-accented mesh grille with color-keyed surround, premium LED headlights with chrome trim, power running boards and BedStep, a color-keyed tailgate spoiler and overfenders, and chrome accents throughout the window molding, mirror caps, door handles, and CAPSTONE door badge and garnish.

The cabin sets itself apart from the rest of the lineup with dark American walnut wood-grain interior trim with a backlit CAPSTONE instrument panel badge, metal speaker grilles to accompany the JBL premium audio system, semi-aniline leather-trimmed seats with contrast stitching, and Capstone floor mats. A 10-inch color head-up display also comes standard to help keep important vehicle data in your direct line of sight.
