2024 Toyota Crown

2024 Toyota Crown

Overview

Last model year brought the introduction of a new Toyota flagship sedan, the Crown. Fans of the automaker may think the name sounds familiar, and they’d be right. The first Toyota sold in the U.S. was the small Crown sedan from the 1950s. Today, the Crown nameplate represents the ultimate Toyota four-door. Like the 2023 edition, the 2024 Crown displays a modern and muscular design that distinguishes it from any previous Toyota sedan. Its stance is slightly raised, giving it a more aggressive appearance and making entry and exit easier.

Some other features make the five-seat Crown stand out are its hybrid powertrain delivering exceptional fuel economy (up to 42 mpg in the city). All-wheel drive is also standard, giving the Crown extra surefootedness, especially in inclement weather. Like all 2024 Toyota models, the Crown includes ToyotaCare. This no-cost benefit provides roadside assistance along with standard scheduled maintenance for 24 months or 25,000 miles.

Trims and Powertrains

There are three trim choices for the 2024 Crown: XLE, Limited, and Platinum. The XLE and Limited have the standard powertrain, a 236-horsepower 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine paired with dual electric motors. The Platinum gets more zest under the hood thanks to Toyota’s Hybrid MAX powertrain, turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine with dual electric motors, for a combined output of 340 horsepower. It’s also set up with dynamic rear handling for even greater performance.

An all-wheel drivetrain is standard. It’s managed by a continuously variable transmission (CVT) in the XLE and Limited and a six-speed automatic in the Platinum. The EPA-estimated fuel economy for the XLE and Platinum is 42 mpg in the city and 41 mpg on the highway. With the Platinum’s more robust engine, this changes to 29 mpg around town and 32 mpg on the highway for the Platinum.

Standard Features

As a well-equipped base trim, the XLE has dual-zone automatic climate control, SofTex upholstery, four USB charge ports (two per row), wireless device charging, eight-way power front seats (heated), proximity keyless entry, a 12.3-inch driver information display, LED exterior lighting, heated power-folding side mirrors, push-button start, a 60/40-split folding rear seat, and 19-inch alloy wheels. The Limited is enhanced with a fixed-panel panoramic glass roof with a power sunshade, leather upholstery, a heated leather-wrapped steering wheel, heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, proximity keyless entry for all four doors, quad-LED headlights, and rain-sensing windshield wipers. The Platinum adds to that with an adaptive suspension, a custom drive-mode selector, steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters, and 21-inch wheels.

Advanced Driver Aids and Safety Technology

All 2024 Crowns have Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 to equip them with a pre-collision mitigation system (with pedestrian detection), blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, lane departure alert with steering assist, lane tracing assist, and adaptive cruise control. The additional standard safety tech includes proactive driving assist (additional braking during cornering or when near other objects), automatic high beams, road sign assist, safe exit assist, and rear-seat reminder. The Limited and Platinum also have front and rear parking sensors with automatic braking. The Platinum gets a surround-view monitor, front cross-traffic alert, traffic jam assist, and lane change assist (these features are optional on the Limited). Every Crown also has eight airbags, anti-lock brakes, stability control, traction control, Smart Stop (to prevent unintended acceleration), and hill start assist.

Infotainment and Connectivity

A 12.3-inch touchscreen serves as the infotainment hub for the 2024 Toyota Crown. It’s supported by wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth, SiriusXM satellite radio, and access to a Wi-Fi hotspot and Toyota connected services (for cloud-based navigation, emergency help, and other features). The XLE has a six-speaker audio system, while the higher trims get a top-quality 11-speaker JBL arrangement.
