Powertrain and Fuel Economy

All trims get a brand-new hybrid powertrain that consists of a 2.5-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine and two electric motors. This system makes a total system output of 245 hp and is matched to an electronically controlled continuously variable transmission (eCVT). Front-wheel drive is standard across the board, but all-wheel drive is available. According to the EPA’s official fuel economy estimates, the FWD versions achieve 36 mpg in the city and 36 mpg on the highway. With AWD, they return 35 city/36 highway. The maximum towing capacity of the ‘21 Sienna is 3,500 pounds.

Trims and Features

The 2021 Toyota Sienna is offered in LE, XLE, XSE, Limited, and Platinum trim levels. They seat either seven or eight passengers, depending on whether the second row is a bench seat or two captain’s chairs. The LE has the second-row bench, but buyers of the XLE can choose the captain’s chairs instead. The second-row captain’s chairs are standard in the XSE, Limited, and Platinum.

The LE has LED headlights and taillights, heated side mirrors with blind-spot indicators, power-sliding rear doors, rear privacy glass, tri-zone automatic climate control, a rearview camera, one USB media port and six USB charge ports, a 12-volt DC power outlet, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, and manual second-row sunshades. The XLE gets LED fog lights, a power liftgate, hands-free power-sliding rear doors, keyless entry and ignition, quad-zone automatic climate control, a power-adjustable front passenger’s seat, a sunroof, an auto-dimming rearview mirror with HomeLink, easy-care faux leather upholstery, heated front seats, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel.

The XSE has a sportier look than the other two trims thanks to its black exterior accents, larger wheels, mesh grille, and exclusive seat trim; it also gets an in-car PA system. The Limited loses the XSE’s sporty features and builds on the XLE with power-folding and auto-dimming side mirrors that also come with puddle lights, reverse tilt-down capability, and position memory to accommodate multiple drivers. Some of its other noteworthy features are chrome roof rails, a wireless smartphone charge pad, genuine leather seats, position memory for the driver’s seat and steering wheel, ventilated front seats, a 7-inch multi-information display, second-row captain’s chairs with ottoman, and manual third-row sunshades. The top-end Platinum receives signature bi-LED headlights, rain-sensing wipers, a 10-inch head-up display, a heated steering wheel, and heated second-row captain’s chairs.

Optional Packages, Safety and Technology

There are some trim-specific optional packages that will upgrade the Odyssey: the LE Plus Package (black roof rails, an auto-dimming rearview mirror with HomeLink, a sunroof, a wireless smartphone charger, and an eight-speaker audio system), the XLE Plus Package (black roof rails, wireless charging, integrated navigation, and a premium 12-speaker JBL sound system), and the XSE Plus Package, which has the same amenities as the XLE Plus Package, minus navigation, which is already standard on the XSE. Every trim except the base LE is eligible for the Entertainment Package (a high-definition entertainment center with an 11.6-inch display, an HDMI input, a remote, and two sets of wireless headphones). A digital rearview mirror and a hands-free liftgate are optional on the Limited and Platinum.

Every Sienna trim gets the Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 suite of active driver aids. This includes a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, lane departure alert with steering assist, lane tracing assist, automatic high beams, full-speed range dynamic radar cruise control, and road sign assist. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is also standard. The XLE and above trims have front and rear parking sensors with automatic braking, but only the Platinum gets a standard surround-view camera system.

The base infotainment system in the LE has a 9-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Amazon Alexa, Bluetooth hands-free phone and audio streaming, satellite radio, and a six-speaker audio system. The XLE moves up to an eight-speaker audio system, and the XSE comes with navigation. The Limited and Platinum inherit a 12-speaker JBL audio system
