Trims and Powertrain

The 2023 GR86 comes in two versions: Base and Premium. Both trims are equipped with a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 228 horsepower and 184 lb.-ft. of torque. The transmission choices are the aforementioned standard six-speed manual gearbox and an optional six-speed automatic. The EPA has determined the car’s fuel economy to be 20 mpg city/27 mpg highway with the manual and 21 city/31 highway with the automatic.

Standard Features

Occupants of the Base GR86 will feel cradled in manually adjustable front sport bucket seats with side bolsters. These, along with the rear folding seats, are covered in fabric. The model’s driver-centric features include a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, a leather-wrapped tilt and telescopic steering wheel, keyless entry with push-button start, LED exterior lighting, and power heated side mirrors. It also gets 17-inch alloy wheels and a limited-slip rear differential.

The Premium dials up the GR86 experience with heated front seats, faux suede and leather upholstery, and aluminum sport pedals. Its performance enhancements include adaptive headlights (which pivot through turns), upgraded Michelin summer tires, 18-inch alloy wheels, and a duckbill rear spoiler (for improved downforce during driving). Toyota offers numerous protective and appearance options, such as a dealer-installed Performance Dual Exhaust for a more robust engine note.

Driver Safety Technology

The GR86 Active Safety Suite is standard with both trims when they’re equipped with an automatic transmission. This collection of safety technology includes a pre-collision braking system, pre-collision throttle management, adaptive cruise control, lead vehicle start alert, lane departure warning, and automatic high beams. Blind-spot warning also comes with the Premium, as do rear parking sensors with reverse automatic braking (automatic transmission only). All GR86s regardless of transmission get vehicle stability control with track mode, anti-lock brakes, electronic brake force distribution, brake assist, seven airbags, and a rearview monitor with projected path guidelines.

Infotainment and Connectivity

Toyota sets up every GR86 with an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system. Its features include Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, SiriusXM satellite radio, access to Toyota Connected Services, and dual USB ports. The Base gets a six-speaker audio system, while the Premium is upgraded with an eight-speaker outfit.
