Trims, Powertrain, and Performance

The front-wheel-drive ’23 Corolla Hatchback uses a simplified lineup of two trims: SE and XSE. Their 169-horsepower 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine pairs with a dynamic-shift continuously variable transmission (CVT) to form an efficient powertrain. According to the EPA’s official estimates, the SE achieves an estimated 32 mpg in the city and 41 mpg on the highway, while the XSE fulfills 30 city/38 highway.

Standard and Available Equipment

The SE starts off with a nice array of features, including LED headlights and daytime running lights, LED taillights, heated side mirrors with turn-signal indicators, 16-inch alloy wheels, Smart Key proximity entry, push-button start, a premium leather-wrapped steering wheel with paddle shifters, automatic climate control, a Sport drive mode, and a 60/40-split rear seatback with a folding center armrest and cup holders. Its infotainment system has an 8-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, SiriusXM satellite radio, a six-speaker sound system, and Bluetooth for hands-free phone and audio streaming. This trim’s other notable technology items are a 4.2-inch multi-information display, a 12V power outlet, and two USB 2.0 charging ports. The optional SE Premium Package will add a power tilt/slide moonroof and deluxe body-colored exterior mirrors with indicators for the turn signals and blind-spot warning.

The XSE is upgraded with LED fog lights, side mirrors with blind-spot warning indicators (these are available for the SE), synthetic-leather and heated front sport seats with fabric inserts, a sport-bolstered and power-adjustable driver’s seat, a 7-inch digital gauge cluster, dual-zone automatic climate control, a wireless phone charge pad, dual chrome exhaust ends, 18-inch graphite-colored wheels, and a deluxe eight-speaker JBL audio system with an amplifier. Both trims can also be ordered with black exterior accents and a black roof.

Active Safety Features

The new Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 suite of active driving aids is standard in the ’23 Corolla Hatchback. Its components are proactive driving assist, a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, lane departure alert with steering assist, automatic high beams, full-speed range dynamic radar cruise control, road sign assist, and lane tracing assist. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is standard in the XSE and optional in the SE.
