Trims and Powertrain

The debuting Corolla Cross comes in a choice of three grades: L, LE, and XLEThe powertrain consists of a 169 horsepower 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and a continuously variable transmission (CVT). Front-wheel drive (FWD) is standard, with all-wheel drive (AWD) available. The EPA has estimated fuel economy for the FWD Corolla Cross at 31 mpg around town and 33 mpg on the highway, regardless of trim level, which dips to 29 city/32 highway with AWD.

Standard Equipment and Options

The base L has cloth seats, LED headlights, automatic high beams, daytime running lights, manual air-conditioning with air filter and rear vents, an overhead console, a center console with armrest, 17-inch steel wheels, an integrated rear spoiler, heated exterior mirrors (black), a 60/40-split folding rear seatback, four cup holders, and a 4.2-inch multi-information display. The LE gets upgraded wheels and upholstery, plus roof rails, a 7-inch multi-information display, wireless smartphone charging, Smart Key keyless entry, dual-zone automatic climate control, two additional cup holders (total of six), heated body-color exterior mirrors with turn-signal indicators and blind-spot warning indicator, a rear window wiper, and auto on/off LED headlights. The XLE is the cream of the crop, getting heated front seats, LED daytime running lights, LED taillights, LED daytime running lights, 18-inch alloy wheels, a ten-way power driver’s seat with lumbar control, and a center armrest in the second row.

Advanced Safety Technology

Every 2022 Corolla Cross is set up with Toyota Safety Sense suite of advanced driver technologies containing a pre-collision system with pedestrian braking, lane departure alert with steering assist, lane tracing assist, automatic high beams, full-speed range dynamic cruise control, and road sign assist. The LE and XLE add blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, but the XLE alone gets braking assist and front and rear parking assist with automatic braking. All trims get the requisite backup camera, but the XLE’s version is enhanced with dynamic gridlines.

Infotainment and Connectivity

The base version of the infotainment system (found in the L trim) has a 7-inch touchscreen and all of the essential features to keep the driver and passengers connected. That list includes smartphone integration (Android Auto and Apple CarPlay), Bluetooth hands-free phone and audio streaming, SiriusXM satellite radio Amazon Alexa, a USB port, and six speakers. The LE and XLE get an 8-inch touchscreen and also receive wireless charging and dual USB charge ports for the second row. The two higher trims are eligible for an upgrade to a JBL audio system with nine speakers, including an amplifier and subwoofer.
