2026 Toyota Prius

Overview
The 2026 model year marks a significant milestone for the Prius, as it marks 25 years on U.S. roads. Over the past quarter-century, the groundbreaking Prius has helped transform hybrid technology from cutting-edge to mainstream. The once-unthinkable goal of 50+ miles per gallon is an everyday occurrence for many Prius drivers. The 2026 edition continues the sportier design, hatchback capability, enhanced performance, and advanced safety and technology features that the fifth-gen redesign kicked off in 2023. Toyota expands on this versatility by offering the Prius in front- or all-wheel-drive versions and multiple trim options. Cargo capacity is 23.8 cubic feet for the LE and 20.3 cubic feet for the other trims.
There is also a plug-in hybrid variant. Look for our separate overview of the Prius PHEV.

Trims and Powertrain
The 2026 Prius lineup comprises the LE, XLE, Nightshade, and Limited grades. They use a 2.0-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine paired with Toyota’s fifth-generation hybrid system, which produces 194 total horsepower in the standard front-wheel-drive configuration. Output increases to 196 horsepower with the optional all-wheel drivetrain. An electronically controlled continuously variable transmission (eCVT) is used in both powertrains.
Fuel economy varies slightly by trim and drivetrain. The LE with FWD tops the list, achieving an EPA-estimated 57 mpg around town and 56 mpg on the highway, while the AWD version is rated at 53 city/54 highway. The other trims are EPA-rated at 52 mpg for both city and highway with FWD and 49 city/50 highway with AWD.
