2026 Toyota Grand Highlander

2026 Toyota
Grand Highlander

The three-row Grand Highlander has quickly risen in Toyota’s sales charts, becoming the automaker’s second-most popular crossover after the RAV4. This rapid rise is due to an adult-friendly third row, seating for up to eight, and real cargo flexibility. Meanwhile, appealing looks and a gutsy turbocharged engine underscore that there’s more to the midsized 2026 Toyota Grand Highlander than just practicality. For those seeking more luxurious transportation, the top-tier Platinum comes with upscale amenities like leather seating, heated and ventilated front seats, and a power panoramic moonroof.

Value is at the heart of every Toyota, so the company includes ToyotaCare, a complimentary standard scheduled maintenance program that provides oil and filter changes, tire rotations, inspections, and fluid checks for two years or 25,000 miles. Roadside assistance with no mileage limitations is also part of the benefit.

Trims and Powertrain

The 2026 Grand Highlander lineup spans four trims: the LE, XLE, Limited, and Platinum. (There is also a gas-electric Grand Highlander Hybrid, which we cover in its own overview.) Every Grand Highlander trim is powered by a 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder making 265 horsepower. Most trims have standard front-wheel drive (FWD), with all-wheel drive (AWD) optional – except for the Platinum, which gets standard AWD. An eight-speed automatic transmission (with paddle shifters for AWD) rounds out the powertrain.

The Grand Highlander can tow up to 5,000 pounds as long as it’s properly equipped. Cargo space in the dedicated area behind the third row measures 20.6 cubic feet. This can be increased to 57.9 cubic feet by folding the third row; folding both the second and third rows will result in 97.5 cubic feet of area for carrying items. The EPA-estimated fuel economy varies by trim and drivetrain, with ratings ranging 20 to 21 mpg in city driving and 26 to 28 mpg on the highway.

Standard Features

On the LE, the standard equipment includes eight-passenger seating (via a second-row bench seat) with fabric upholstery. The other significant features are an eight-way power driver’s seat, tri-zone automatic climate control with second-row controls and rear vents, a tilt-and-telescopic steering column, an overhead console, proximity keyless entry, push-button ignition, LED exterior lighting, heated power side mirrors, roof rails, rear privacy glass, a windshield wiper de-icer, a 7-inch driver display, seven USB-C ports, and 18-inch alloy wheels.

XLE buyers will get SofTex leatherette upholstery, heated front seats, a ten-way power driver’s seat, an eight-way power front passenger seat, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, second-row sunshades, wireless device charging, and a digital key. This trim comes standard with second-row captain’s chairs for seven-passenger seating; an eight-passenger cabin is available.

With the Limited, the features expand to leather-trimmed seating in the first and second rows, heated and ventilated front seats, heated second-row outboard seats, a heated steering wheel, a hands-free power liftgate, and driver’s seat memory. Toyota also gives it LED fog lamps and daytime running lights, rain-sensing windshield wipers, power-folding side mirrors, a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, unique interior and exterior styling, ambient cabin lighting, a 120-volt outlet, and 20-inch alloy wheels. A power panoramic moonroof is optional on the XLE and Limited. The seven-passenger Platinum is upgraded with a power panoramic moonroof, heated and ventilated second-row seats, a color head-up display, and a digital rearview mirror.

Advanced Driver Aids and Safety Technology

Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 is standard across the Grand Highlander lineup. This driver-assist technology suite includes a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, lane departure alert with steering assist, lane-tracing assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, additional braking and steering support (Proactive Driving Assist), traffic sign recognition, and automatic high beams. The Platinum also gets traffic jam assist; the Limited and Platinum add front and rear parking assist with automatic braking. A surround-view monitor is standard on the Platinum and available on the Limited. Every trim receives a set of eight airbags plus traction and stability control, traction control, hill start assist, Smart Stop Technology (to minimize unintended acceleration), and a rearview camera with dynamic guidelines.

Infotainment and Connectivity

Every Grand Highlander features a 12.3-inch touchscreen running Toyota Audio Multimedia, the company’s latest infotainment platform. The system has wireless smartphone connectivity (Android Auto and Apple CarPlay), SiriusXM satellite radio, and Bluetooth. In addition, all trims are set up for access to Toyota Connected Services, Wi-Fi hotspot capability, and over-the-air (OTA) updates. The LE and XLE have a six-speaker audio system, while the higher trims move to an JBL unit with 11 speakers.
