2025 Toyota Land Cruiser

Overview
The mere name “Land Cruiser” stirs up feelings of nostalgia and reverence, as Toyota’s rugged overlander has earned respect and appreciation since it debuted in the 1950s as a military vehicle. Since then, it has even established something of a cult following, with various clubs for Land Cruiser owners and enthusiasts. Over the generations, the Land Cruiser has taken on more comfort features, and for many years it offered a third row of seating (although that feature was taken away as part of last year’s redesign). The 2025 Land Cruiser continues the model’s seventh generation with continuation of the i-FORCE MAX hybrid powertrain, which gives it the best of both worlds: brawny power and torque output with improved fuel economy (up to 25 mpg highway). Its paint palette has grown for this model year with the addition of the retro-inspired Heritage Blue.

Trims and Mechanical Details
The two trim grades for the 2025 Land Cruiser are simply called 1958 and Land Cruiser. The aforementioned i-FORCE MAX gas-electric powertrain consists of a turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine and two electric motors, which combine to make 326 net horsepower and 465 lb.-ft. of torque. An eight-speed automatic transmission and a standard full-time four-wheel drivetrain complete the big picture mechanically.
According to the EPA, both trims achieve an estimated 22 mpg in city driving and 25 mpg on the open road. The Land Cruiser can also tow as much as 6,000 pounds, outdoing the Jeep Wrangler, Chevy Traverse, and Ford Bronco.
Standard and Available Features
The base trim, the 1958, harkens back to the original Land Cruiser with round headlights (albeit with modern LED bulbs) and a “TOYOTA” heritage grille instead of the usual T logo. For convenience and comfort, it comes with proximity keyless entry, heated front seats, cloth upholstery, three zones of automatic climate control, rain-sensing windshield wipers, a windshield wiper de-icer, LED fog lights, a leather-wrapped shift knob, an auto-dimming rearview mirror with HomeLink, a 7-inch digital multi-information display, a half-dozen USB-C ports, two power outlets (12V and 120V). It’s made for leaving the pavement, with the likes of skid plates and front and rear frame-mounted tow hooks.
The trim called Land Cruiser reverts to the more common rectangular LED headlights and ramps up the luxury factor with ventilated front seats, running boards, a power liftgate, a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, a power-adjustable tilt/telescopic steering wheel, all-weather floor liners, Rigid Industries LED fog lights with changeable colors, roof rails, and a Multi-Terrain Monitor that provides front, side, and rear views that help during off-roading. Toyota also offers the optional Land Cruiser Package to add leather upholstery, a head-up display, a moonroof, wireless phone charging, Digital Key, a power-adjustable driver’s seat with position memory, a digital rearview mirror, illuminated running boards, a center-console cooler box, and additional infotainment and safety features (see the next two sections for details).
Advanced Safety Tech
The Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 suite of driver-assist technologies is installed in both Land Cruiser trims. It consists of automatic high beams, a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, full-speed dynamic radar cruise control, lane departure alert with steering assist, lane tracing assist, road sign assist, and proactive driving assist. A blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert is also standard, along with trailer merge warning, trailer sway control, front and rear parking sensors with automatic braking, and safe exit alert. Buyers of the higher trim who opt for the Land Cruiser Package will also get lane change assist, front cross-traffic alert, and traffic jam assist.
Infotainment and Connectivity
The 1958 trim centers its infotainment features within an 8-inch touchscreen, while the Land Cruiser trim moves up to a 12.3-inch touchscreen. Both trims have Bluetooth, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, SiriusXM satellite radio, and a sound system (the lower trim gets six speakers and the higher trim gets ten). The optional Land Cruiser Package includes an upgrade to a JBL sound system with fourteen speakers. All buyers receive a 30-day trial of Wi-Fi Connect; buyers of the higher-priced trim add a one-year trial of Drive Connect, which includes Cloud Navigation with Google Points of Interest, Intelligent Assistant voice recognition, and Destination Assist.
