2025 Toyota
Grand Highlander
The Toyota Grand Highlander has the interior space and creature comforts that today’s SUV buyers demand,
without the bulk of a full-sized SUV. Designed to meet a growing demand for three-row vehicles, the
Grand Highlander complements the original Highlander with some additional cabin space, accommodating as
many as eight passengers or up to 97.5 cubic feet of cargo volume when the second and third rows aren’t
needed. It’s the answer for families who don’t want to leave anyone – or anything – behind.
In
the interest of providing more value than ever, Toyota introduced the LE trim as a new entry point to
the Grand Highlander lineup. This base trim is well appointed with a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen,
wireless smartphone connection, and seven Toyota Safety Sense technologies. In other changes for 2025, a
removable second-row center console now comes on the XLE and above, and Heavy Metal paint is offered for
the Limited and Platinum. Note that this page focuses on the gas-only 2025 Grand Highlander. For details
on the hybrid version, please refer to the separate 2025 Grand Highlander Hybrid overview.
Trim Levels, Powertrain, and Performance
The 2025 Grand Highlander is presented in trim packages called LE, XLE, Limited, and Platinum. A
2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine and an 8-speed electronically controlled automatic
transmission make up the powertrain, which puts out 265 horsepower and 310 lb.-ft. of torque. The entire
lineup has front-wheel drive (FWD); however, all-wheel drive (AWD) is available on every trim, and it
comes standard on the Platinum. Every trim has a towing capacity of up to 5,000 pounds with the proper
trailering equipment.
Each grade also comes with a drive mode selector with settings for Snow,
Sport, Eco, and Normal, and Snow; the Platinum gets additional modes for Mud & Sand, Rock & Dirt, and
Normal. All trims with FWD achieve an EPA-estimated 21 mpg city and 28 mpg highway. With AWD, the XLE
returns 21 mpg city/27 mpg highway, while the Limited and Platinum achieve 20 mpg city/26 mpg highway.
Standard and Available Equipment
The LE is configured with three-row seating for up to eight passengers, via a 60/40 split second-row
bench, and reclining third-row seats with adjustable headrests. The other interior amenities include
three-zone automatic climate control with rear vents, a 7-inch color multi-information display, fabric
upholstery, an 8-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, a roll-top center console with a removable tray,
seven USB-C ports, and two 12V power outlets. On the exterior, you’ll find 18-inch 5-spoke silver
wheels, a height-adjustable power liftgate, LED headlights and taillights, a rear spoiler with an
integrated LED stop light, heated power mirrors, a rear wiper de-icer, and a remote keyless entry
system, along with Toyota’s Smart Key access on all doors and the liftgate.
The XLE interior
switches to second-row captain’s chairs, limiting the seating capacity to seven and improving third-row
accessibility. The other upgrades are SofTex (synthetic leather) upholstery in all three rows, heated
front seats, a 10-way power-adjustable driver's seat, an 8-way power-adjustable front passenger’s seat,
a leather-trimmed steering wheel, wireless phone charging, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror with a
HomeLink universal garage door opener.
The Limited gets leather upholstery (in the first two
rows), heated and ventilated front seats, heated second-row seats, LED fog lights and daytime running
lights, a foot-activated power liftgate, rain-sensing windshield wipers, power-folding heated side
mirrors, driver’s seat memory, a leather-wrapped heated steering wheel, ambient interior lighting, metal
scuff plates, a 12.3-inch digital instrument display, 20-inch silver multi-spoke wheels, and a 120V
power outlet. The Platinum is loaded up with heated and ventilated second-row seats, a panoramic roof
with a power sunshade, brown wood-patterned door trim, a 10-inch head-up display, a digital rearview
mirror with HomeLink, LED cargo-area lighting, and paddle shifters.
Advanced Safety Features
Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 (TSS 3.0), the proprietary suite of driver-assistance technologies, is standard on every ‘25 Grand Highlander trim. It consists of dynamic radar cruise control, a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, proactive driving assist, lane tracing assist, lane departure alert with steering assist, road sign assist, and automatic high beams. Each grade is also equipped with trailer sway control and blind spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert. The two higher trims add front and rear parking assist with automatic braking, while the Platinum alone receives a panoramic view monitor and traffic jam assist.
Multimedia and Connectivity
Every trim has a 12.3-inch color touchscreen, Bluetooth hands-free phone and audio streaming capability, wireless Android Auto, wireless Apple CarPlay, SiriusXM satellite radio, and access to Toyota connected services. The XLE adds the Digital Key, enabling the owner to lock/unlock the doors, start the engine, and access other vehicle controls using a compatible smartphone. The Limited and Platinum swap out the standard six-speaker sound system for a premium JBL unit with 11 speakers, a subwoofer, and an amplifier.
