Trims and Powertrains
The 2025 Toyota Grand Highlander Hybrid is made in five trim grades: LE, XLE, Limited, Nightshade, and Platinum. The LE, XLE, and Limited have a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine paired with a hybrid system to generate a combined 245 horsepower. Most trims come standard with all-wheel drive (AWD), while the XLE has front-wheel drive (FWD), with AWD optional. Both drivetrains use an electronically controlled continuously variable transmission (eCVT).
The Hybrid MAX powerplant is optional for the Limited and standard with the Platinum. This powertrain features a turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder unit and a hybrid system that combine to make 362 horsepower. It works with a six-speed automatic transmission and standard AWD.
Fuel economy for the base hybrid powertrain ranges from 35 to 37 mpg in the city and 31 to 34 mpg on the highway, depending on the trim and drivetrain. The Hybrid MAX powerplant is rated for 26 mpg around town and 27 mpg on the open road. A Grand Highlander Hybrid with the Hybrid MAX engine can tow up to 5,000 pounds, while the base hybrid powerplant has a 3,500-pound trailering capacity. You’ll have 20.6 cubic feet of space in the cargo area when all rows are upright. That can expand to 57.9 cubic feet with the third row folded down, and 97.5 cubic feet with both back rows flattened.
