Trims and Powertrains

The 2023 Toyota Camry is available in LE, SE, SE Nightshade, XLE, XSE, and TRD trim levels. Most get a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that puts out 203 hp and 184 lb.-ft. of torque. The TRD is the outlier, coming with a 3.5-liter V6 (which is optional for the XLE and XSE) that produces 301 hp and 267 lb.-ft. of torque. Both engines partner with an eight-speed automatic transmission, and while front-wheel drive is standard, all-wheel drive is available on four-cylinder Camry versions.

Fuel Economy

The 2023 Camry is an excellent choice for those wishing to limit their gasoline expenditure. According to the EPA, the FWD models with the 2.5-liter engine return an estimated 28 mpg in the city and 39 mpg on the highway. With AWD, the 2.5-liter Camry achieves 25 city/34 highway. The V6-powered XLE gets 22 city/33 highway, while the V6 XSE pulls off 22 city/32 highway. The sportier TRD, meanwhile, will give its driver 22 city/31 highway.

Notable Amenities

Toyota has always put lots of standard features in the crowd-pleasing Camry. The LE may be entry-level, but it gets a number of high-end features, like auto on/off bi-LED headlights, LED daytime running lights and taillights, a remote entry system, a 12-volt power outlet, a USB-C charging port, dual-zone automatic climate control, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, an overhead console sunglasses holder, a drive-mode selector (with settings for Eco, Normal, and Sport), illuminated vanity mirrors, and a 60/40-split fold-down rear seatback with a folding center armrest. The SE is supplied with side rocker panels, heated side mirrors with turn-signal indicators, a color-keyed rear spoiler, a single exhaust with dual chrome tips, SofTex-trimmed sport seats with fabric inserts, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. The mysterious-looking SE Nightshade adds black exterior accents, bronze-finished wheels, and unique badges.

The XLE builds off the LE with full LED headlights, heated side mirrors with turn-signal and blind-spot warning indicators, outside door handles with touch sensor lock/unlock, dark gray exterior elements, Smart Key on the front doors and trunk, push-button ignition, a wireless phone charger, a 7-inch multi-information display, leather seats (heated in the front row), a power passenger seat, wood interior trim, an auto-dimming rearview mirror with HomeLink, and ambient interior lighting. The back seat gets adjustable headrests, its own HVAC vents, and LED reading lights.

The XSE combines the contents of the XLE with the sportier attributes of the SE. It’s adorned with gloss-black exterior accents, a sport mesh grille, and patterned metal interior trim. The TRD places a premium on athleticism with its front splitter, side aero skirts, rear diffuser with red pinstriping, aluminum sport pedals, more rigid underbody braces, additional rear seat V-bracing, TRD track-tuned front and rear coil springs, red-painted brake calipers (front and rear), and active cornering assist. Beyond that track-inspired bounty, it has bi-LED headlights, matte black exterior elements, red TRD badging, single-zone automatic climate control, TRD instrumentation with red accents, SofTex-trimmed seats with red seatbelts and stitching, and a black leather shift knob (also with red stitching).

Active Safety Technologies

The Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+ suite is provided on every trim, consisting of a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, lane departure alert with steering assist, automatic high beams, lane tracing assist, a rear seat reminder, road sign assist, and dynamic radar cruise control. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is available for the LE, SE, and SE Nightshade, but it’s standard on the XLE, XSE, and TRD. For added behind-the-wheel confidence, front and rear parking assist with automatic braking and a panoramic view monitor are optional for the XLE and XSE.

Infotainment and Connectivity

The LE, SE, SE Nightshade, and TRD get a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth hands-free phone and audio streaming, SiriusXM satellite radio, and a six-speaker sound system. The LE, SE, and SE Nightshade are eligible for upgrading to a 9-inch touchscreen, which comes standard on the XLE and XSE. The XLE, XSE, and TRD qualify for a nine-speaker JBL audio system (standard in the V6 LE and XSE); the XLE and XSE can also be ordered with integrated navigation.

Optional Packages

The 2023 Camry can be elevated with any of a series of available packages. The LE, SE, and SE Nightshade qualify for the Convenience Package (Smart Key and an auto-dimming rearview mirror with HomeLink). There’s also the Cold Weather Package for the SE (a heated steering wheel, heated side mirrors with blind-spot warning indicators, and heated front seats). The XLE and XSE may add the heated steering wheel (both trims already have the other features listed in the SE Cold Weather Package). What’s more, the XLE and XSE are available with the Driver Assist Package, which contains a 10-inch head-up display, a panoramic view monitor, front and rear parking sensors with automatic braking, and multi-stage ventilated front seats. Finally, the XLE and XSE with the V6 powerplant can be outfitted with the Navigation Upgrade Package to add dynamic navigation.
